Only Wednesday

Between yesterday and today, I feel like it has been a full week, and it is only Wednesday. I am so thankful this is a short work week!!!

Everyone probably knows me by now, even if you just read my blog, that I do NOT handle people throwing up. Not at all. Not in the least bit. Just people saying they feel like they might throw up sends me running worlds away from them...and leaving my stomach doing flips of its own. I do not know where this phobia came from. Maybe it was my own experiences with throwing up ALL the time, maybe it is just one of those things. Either way, wherever it came from - it is very real.

So - Tuesday...a co-worker went out of our suite to go to the bathroom and came back in for a wheelchair and my boss went out with her. Apparently, a patient that was coming to see one of our doctors was about to pass out. My boss came back in for a bucket because the patient felt sick, but the patient threw up in the hall. Nasty. Then I find out they are bringing the patient into the office to an exam room. I was nowhere near there! Anyway, we ended up having to call for an ambulance for this patient. It was like maybe 40 minutes of chaos...but it just sets the tone for the day.

Today, today was...I just do not know what crawls up some people's ass and makes them act the way they do. I really thought I was going to have to call the cops on a patient that came in today. She started off fine when I checked her in. Then a few minutes after her appointment time she was still in the waiting room and she started to get ticked. She was called back into the room and I sit fairly close to the room she was in. The doctor went in with her and I could hear the patient yelling at the doctor through the closed door. When the patient came out, I was up. She comes to check out and I give her the prescription of which she questions and I answer and she seemed ok. Then she said she was suppose to get samples of medication and when it was explained to her that we did not have any - she threw her paperwork and said she wasn't going to pay for something she can't try and there has to be something else....then I was left alone with her. It ended up that she threw more paperwork down and me and said she wanted her money back and she (the doctor) was lousy. I could go on - but it makes me tired just thinking about it. She ended up not getting her money back because she was seen by the doctor - she filed a complaint, maybe two or three...and she stormed out of the office telling the other patient's in the waiting room how terrible we all were.

This stuff could be enough to make a person break out in hives! ;)

  1. Ah, people. In teaching we always say it would be nice if parents just dropped their kids off at the door and picked them up there too. They are the ones that cause all the issues. They try to be too involved and for some of them there is no trust. You want to say, "You allow me to take care of them 8 hours a day and yet you don't trust me?" Makes no sense.

Sorry about the rude patients. I'm not sure how you deal with it. When I worked in the jewelry store I'll never forget I had this really rude and crabby customer and by the time she finally left I just went into the back room and cried. I was drained the rest of the day.

Yeah for having a short week!
